TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man was arrested Saturday after he allegedly caused severe damage to a church and struck an officer with a Stanley cup, according to reports.

Timothy Bornman, 24, is accused of breaking into The Mission Church in Palm Bay shortly before 5:20 p.m. and causing thousands of damage, an arrest affidavit from the Palm Bay Police Department showed.

Before breaking into the church, police said the 24-year-old went into a shed at the back of the property and retrieved a sledgehammer. He then used the sledgehammer to break the church’s front door and “started to damage everything in sight,” the affidavit stated.

When officers arrived at the church, they found Bornman in only shorts, holding a metal Stanley cup while walking around the church parking lot yelling and cussing at members of the church.

According to the affidavit, Bornman also told officers he was going to “f—k [them] up” when they approached him.

After being told to get on the ground, Bornman allegedly approached an officer “in an aggressive manner” and tried to hit him in the head with the Stanley cup. The officer was able to dodge the cup but was hit in the shoulder.

When the 24-year-old attempted to run, officers deployed a stun gun, the affidavit shows. Following a brief struggle, the officers were able to get Bornman into handcuffs.

According to the arrest report, Bornman told authorities he remembered breaking into the church and admitted to causing all the damage inside. He also told police that the “church stole everything from him” and that’s why he broke in.

Police said Bornman caused over $10,000 worth of damage.

The 24-year-old was taken to a nearby hospital before being booked into the Brevard County Jail. He is facing several charges, including burglary to an unoccupied structure, criminal mischief in a place of worship, battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting officers with violence, the affidavit states.
